Alston,

Mr. Tommy Downie, age 74, of Alston, died Saturday, February 11, 2017, in Memorial Health University Medical Center in Savannah.  He was a native of Montgomery County where he lived most of his life, and was a1960 graduate of Montgomery County High School.  He started his career with GTE as a lineman, and retired after thirty-one years as Construction Manager in Georgia.  He attended the Oak Grove Baptist Church near Alston.  He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Kemp Downie; and his parents, John Leroy Downie and Annie Austine Morris Downie.  He was an avid fisherman, and a gifted horse trainer.

Mr. Downie is survived by three children, Chris Downie, Dara Downie Bell and husband Tom, all of Alston, and Marla Downie Kujawa and husband Jeff of Perry; one brother, “Buddy” Downie and wife Mary of Vidalia; six grandchildren, Brandy Spell and husband Keegan, Summer Lamb, Hunter Downie, Dakota Woodard, Montana Kujawa, and Trace Bell; three great-grandchildren, Dalton, Remi, and Tyson Spell; and several nieces and nephews.

The funeral service will be held Wednesday, February 15th at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel of Ronald V. Hall Funeral Home with Mr. Keegan Spell officiating.  Burial will follow in the Walker Cemetery near Alston. 

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday evening from 6:00 until 8:00.
