Center Community,

Mr. Leonard Durwood “Tank” Thompson, age 79, of the Center Community, died Thursday, May 19, 2016 in his home, after an extended illness.  He was a native of Toombs County and lived all of his life in the Center Community. He was a 1958 graduate of Lyons High School, where he played defensive lineman, and accepted a scholarship from Valdosta State. He retired from Georgia Power Company as a heavy equipment operator after twenty-five years of service.  He enjoyed his Catawba trees, fishing, and squirrel hunting. He was preceded in death by his wife, Joan Cluff Thompson in 2004; parents, Leonard Elman Thompson and Nita Mae Mosley Thompson; and one brother, Hayward Thompson.

Mr. Thompson is survived by one daughter, Kristy Thompson and Robbie O’Neil of Brunswick; one son, Brian “Tank” Thompson and wife Michelle of Vidalia; two grandchildren, Jolea Mae Thompson of Brunswick, and Gavin Leonard Thompson of Vidalia; and several nieces and nephews.

The funeral service will be held Sunday, May 22nd at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of Ronald V. Hall Funeral Home with Pastor Reece Mincey officiating.  Burial will follow in the South Thompson Baptist Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday evening from 6:00 until 8:00.
