Dearest Mark and Family,
It has been nearly 3 months since Carolyn's death.  I know you may have wondered why you have not heard from us.  I found out only 3 weeks ago by word of mouth and then checked the Roanoke obituaries.  I guess I have been in disbelief and today found this website.  I want to let you know how sad I am and how sorry we were to hear she was so ill.  Lately, I get many flashes of our childhood together at Woodrow Park, our close high school friendship and our time as roomates at VCU.  Your marriage, beautiful children (and I'm sure grandchildren) and your wonderful remarriage. You and Carolyn shared true love, Mark, and I know you miss her profoundly. I loved her very much and know she influenced her family as she did the students she counciled..positively and passionately.  I have laughed remembering her poinient comments and hilarious (on target) observations about real life and wish I had her here now to reminiss and philoso-fy with. She would cheer me up.  I treasure our conversation at the last reunion 2 years ago. The picture you choose was beautiful and perfect...like she had just delivered one of her famous quips. Please know that I considered her a lifelong friend and a true lady.  I know she was brave and smiling to the end. Also, give my love and condolences to Madaline, her Mom.  We are thinking of you, please be in touch.
Tenderly,  Patty (Dooley)and Richard King and Boys

Mark and family,
We were so sad to hear of Carolyn's passing. Mother continues to talk about your mother and what a good friend she was to her while at Bethany Assisted.  She loves you and Carolyn
and did so appreciate your visits.  You and Carolyn have been in our thoughts and prayers and will continue to be.  Our prayer is that God will hold you and your children and grandchildren close in the days to come.

Mark ,

I just wanted to tell you thank you for being a wonder extended family for my brother. He has always talked highly about you and Carolyn. I believe it was a priveldge knowing Carolyn, only usually getting together on holidays, but knowing that we were always welcome.  I also would like you to know that it was a joy to spend Thanksgiving with you and being able to take the family picture.  The kids have already expressed that they will miss seeing "Big Mama" when we go to visit.  My thoughts and prayer are with you and the rest of the family on your loss of such a nice woman.  Remembering how she was always in the kitchen tyring to get things just right but still greeting you with giant smile and a hug.  Thank you for shareing such a wonderful lady with me and my family.

Missy, Matthew and Corrine

Dear Mark & Family,

My sympathy for your family on the loss of Carolyn.  I began my teaching career 25 years ago at ACHS and Carolyn was there at the school in 1984-I came back in 2000 and was glad to see Carolyn again.  We often talked about our children and grandchildren.  She was a true southern lady with a wonderful spirit.  We still miss her.  Our thoughts and prayers are with you all.

Madeline:

I am so sorry to here of Carolyn's passing. I wished I had been closer to you all so I could have gotten to know Carolyn more. It's some comforting to know that Carolyn was a Christian & I know that she is leaping for joy now to be free of her diseased body. I am so sorry we could not make it to the funeral, but you all are in our thoughts & prayers. May the Lord bless you & comfort you during this time of sorrow. Love Ken & Sherry Scruggs.

To Miss Carolyn's family we send our love and sympathies.  We were honored to have the opportunity to get to know Carolyn and considered her part of our extended family after "adopting" Terri, Troy and the boys into our family when they moved next door.  I will miss visiting out by the pool, watching the boys swim, trying to solve the problems of the world of school counseling with Caroyln.
