Lyons,

Mrs. Barbara Ferrell Smith, age 70, died November 24, 2015 at her home in Lyons, after an extended illness.  She was a native of Waycross, and in 1962, she married Lyons native Wayne Smith, while living in Brunswick.  The couple moved back to Wayne's childhood home in 1965 and opened Smith's Hardware, along with her mother and father-in-law, the late Sammie and Rolla Smith.  In 1970, Mrs. Smith started a successful companion business, named Barbara's Flowers, where she designed flower arrangements and directed many local weddings.  Mrs. Smith served as Co-Chair of the Lyons Merchants Association, on the Board of Directors of the Lyons Better Hometown Association and facilitated the Downtown Beautification Project.  She was a fifty-one year member of Beta Sigma Phi sorority, and was named Lyons Lady of the Year in 1983. She was preceded in death by her parents Steven Kinard Ferrell and Mary Henderson Ferrell.  Mrs. Smith was a member of First Baptist Church of Lyons where she taught Sunday school, was a member of the Joy Sunday School Class, and served on many committees.

Mrs. Smith is survived by her husband of fifty-three years, Wayne Smith, Sr. of Lyons, one son, Wayne Smith, Jr. and wife Tracey of Peachtree City; two granddaughters, Cheyney Smith and Darby Smith of Peachtree City; one brother, Steve Ferrell of St. Simons Island; one sister, Mary Lou Anderson of Waycross; and several nieces and nephews.

The funeral service will be held Friday, November 27th at 11:00 a.m. the First Baptist Church of Lyons with Reverend Dannie Williams officiating.  Burial will follow in the Lyons City Cemetery.

The family will received friends at the funeral home on Thursday evening from 6:00 until 8:00.
