Mrs. Iris Collins Griffin Lanigan, age 81, of Oak Park, died Wednesday, December 6, 2017, in the Community Hospice House in Vidalia. She was a native of Emanuel County, and lived near Oak Park all of her life. She was a 1954 graduate of Oak Park High School where she was Captain of the girl’s basketball team. She worked at Twin City Manufacturing for several years, Argo Knitting Mills “Creston” in Swainsboro for nineteen years, and retired as the owner of Ide’s Country Kitchen in Oak Park after twenty-two years. She was a member of the Lower Corinth Free Will Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by two husbands, Howard Griffin and Durance Lanigan; her parents, Guyton and Laura Collins; and one brother, George L. Collins and a sister, Joyce Reynolds.
Mrs. Lanigan is survived by two children, Jeanne Griffin and Joe Griffin, both of Oak Park; four stepchildren, Marilyn Rower and husband Leo, Mike Lanigan, Delores Phillips, all of Oak Park and Jean Phillips of Lyons; three sisters, Judy Collins and husband “Buck” Hooks of Nunez, Jewell Pullum and Jessie Covington of Aline, and Pauline Phillips of Reidsville; one brother, William “Buddy” Collins and wife Trina of Oak Park; and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral service will be held Friday, December 8th at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of Ronald V. Hall Funeral Home with Reverend Robert Beckum, Reverend Tim Brantley and Harold Milligan officiating. Burial will follow in the Mt. Zion Baptist Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday evening from 6:00 until 8:00.
Pallbearers will be Dave Beecher, Jim Beecher, Davis Beecher, Josh Lewis, Jr., Greg Powell, Robert Screws, Tyson Stephens, and Jerry Monroe.
Honorary pallbearers will be members of Lower Corinth Free Will Baptist Church and former employees of Ide’s Country Kitchen.
