Lyons,

Mrs. Myrtle Higgs Mayes, age 91, of Lyons, died Monday, June 6, 2016 in Oxley Park Health and Rehabilitation in Lyons, after an extended illness.  She was a native of Toombs County, and lived all of her life in Lyons.  She was a homemaker, and was the oldest living member of the Sharpe’s Chapel United Methodist Church.  She was a loving mother and grandmother.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Harvil Mayes; parents, Henry Giles Higgs and Mattie Collins Higgs; two sisters, Bobbie and Marie; and three brothers, Brooks, Fred, and Ray.

Mrs. Mayes is survived by five children, Harold Mayes and wife Margie of Washington, Georgia, Bob Mayes and wife Mae, DeLaine Moseley, Gail Edenfield and husband Peyton, all of Lyons, and Vicki Connell and husband Tommy of Statesboro; a sister-in-law, Alma Higgs of Lyons; eleven grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandson, and several special nieces and nephews.

The funeral service will be held Wednesday, June 8th at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of Ronald V. Hall Funeral Home with Reverend Bobby Gale and Reverend Lee Pulliam officiating.  Burial will follow in the Odom Cemetery near Lyons.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday evening from 6:00 until 8:00.
