Mr. Lewis Powell, age 85, of Lyons, died Thursday, September 22, 2016 at the Community Hospice House in Vidalia, after an extended illness. He was born in Emanuel County and lived most of his life in Toombs County. He retired as shop foreman for Georgia Machine after forty-six years and later retired again from Fab Tech. He was a United States Army Korean War veteran and was Methodist by faith. He was preceded in death by his parents, John Franklin Powell and Ola Bell Harrell Powell; and eleven siblings, Johnny Bell Mincey, Nana Lou Hayes, Eula Pearl Johnson, Ella Ree Corley, Elton Powell, Ralph Powell, Alvin Powell, Cecil Powell, J.W. Powell, Lamar Powell, and an infant sister.
Mr. Powell is survived by his wife, May Roy Scott Powell of Lyons; two daughters, Sue Barker and husband Tommy of Vidalia, and Gail Morris of Lyons; one sister-in-law, Bernice Powell of Vidalia; five grandchildren, Clay Barker and wife Abbie of Suwanee, Nikki Bailey and husband Anthony of Vidalia, Ashley Barfield and husband Trippe of Eatonton, Kristen Morris of Lyons, and Kim Phillips and husband Al of Thomaston; seven great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
The funeral service will be held Sunday, September 25th at 5:00 p.m. in the chapel of Ronald V. Hall Funeral Home with Reverend Mitch Bellflower and Mr. Thomas Scott officiating. Burial will follow in Center United Methodist Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday evening from 6:00 until 8:00.
