Mrs. Grace Toole Smith, age 69, of the Johnson Corner Community, died Tuesday, November 21, 2017, in the Community Hospice House in Vidalia, after an extended illness. She was a native of Toombs County, and was a graduate of Toombs Central High School. She lived in Thomson for several years, and returned to Toombs County in 1974. She lived in Coffee County for twenty-five years, where she was manager of Aden’s Convenient Store in Douglas, and returned to Johnson Corner in 2015. She was a member of the Edmond Chapel Church of God. She was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Elizabeth Kirkley; and her parents, “Rooster” and Nan Hill Toole.
Mrs. Smith is survived by her husband, Kenneth Smith of Johnson Corner; two daughters, Sherry Kirkley and husband Greg of Johnson Corner, and Kim Jennings of the New Branch Community; two sons, Maurice Englett and wife Michelle of Lyons, and Michael Englett of New Branch; two step-children, Kenny Smith and wife Lauren, and Laurie Hyers and husband Chris, all of Palatka, Florida; nine siblings, Jean Wilkes, Ivy Toole, Sr. and wife Sue, Ann Collins and husband Lawrence, and Wanda Collins of Johnson Corner, Connie Beasley and husband Doyle of Cedar Crossing, Jobbie Toole and wife Sabrina, Hilbert Toole and wife Michelle of Dublin, Herbert Toole and wife Debbie of Vidalia, and Michelle Toole of Vidalia; five grandchildren, Ryan, Archie, Natalie, Draven, and Brittany; ten step-grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
The funeral service will be held Friday, November 24th at 2:00 p.m. in the Edmond Chapel Church of God with Reverend John Wayne Owens officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the church on Friday afternoon from 12:00 Noon until just prior to the service.
