Mrs. Betty Reagan Parsons, age 87, of Vidalia, died Friday, May 19, 2017, at her home, after an extended illness. She was born in Burke County, grew up in Millen, moved to Wadley, and graduated high school there in 1947. She earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Home Economics from Georgia Teacher’s College in Statesboro, and later a Master’s Degree in Primary Education from Eastern Kentucky University in Richmond, Kentucky. She began her teaching career in 1951 at Folkston High School, and moved to Vidalia in 1954. She starting teaching with the Vidalia school system where she taught for many years, and after retirement, enjoyed her years teaching at Robert Toombs Christian Academy. She was a member of the Georgia Retired Teachers Association. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Vidalia and the Winsome Sunday School Class. She was preceded in death by her mother, Alma Reagan Marshall; and three sisters, Sara Fuller, Margaret Goodson, and Donnie Swain.
Mrs. Parsons is survived by her husband of sixty-three years, Coach Ralph Parsons of Vidalia; one son, Hal R. Parsons, Jr. and wife Elizabeth of Savannah and Elizabeth’s parents, Dr. Bill and Sue Copeland; two grandsons, Harold R. “Tripp” Parsons III and William Bryce Parsons, both of Savannah; one sister, Mary Wasden of Millen; numerous nieces and nephews, including two special nieces, Judy McAlhany and Patsy Kitchens.
The funeral service will be held Tuesday, May 23rd at 1:00 p.m. in the chapel of Ronald V. Hall Funeral Home with Reverend Scott Morrison officiating. Burial will follow in Lakeview Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday evening from 6:00 until 8:00.
