Mr. Ernest “Ernie” Bennett, age 73, of Lyons, died Saturday, August 1, 2015 at his home, after an extended illness.  He was a native of Black River, New York, entered the U.S. Navy in 1959 and served on the USS Shangri-la.  He worked for Georgia Pacific for several years, and was plant manager and company executive for Katy Industries for many years.  After his retirement, he became a consultant for waste to energy plants.  He was a member of the Episcopalian church, and attended the Episcopal Church of the Annunciation in Vidalia.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Ernest Clifford Bennett and Elaine Augusta Rogers Bennett; and two sisters, Ann Schenk and Nancy Jacobs.

Ernie is survived his wife, Cynthia Johnson Powell Bennett of Lyons; four children, Shannon Bennett of Burlington, North Carolina, Scott Bennett and wife Lisa of Peach Tree City, Don Powell and wife Trelawney of Vidalia, and Shannon Powell and wife Cindy of Vidalia; two sisters, Kathy Woods of West Winfield, New York, and Rose Weller of Lennox, Michigan; two brothers-in-law; fourteen grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

The funeral service will be held Wednesday, August 5th at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel of Ronald V. Hall Funeral Home.  Burial will follow in the Sharpe Cemetery near Alston.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday evening from 6:00 until 8:00.
