Mt. Vernon,

Dr. Haywood E. Boyd, age 80, passed away on October 4, 2015 in the Community Hospice House in Vidalia, Georgia.  Son of Hilary E. Boyd and Ruth Clementine “Tina” Moseley Boyd, Dr. Boyd was born April 1, 1935 in the Clito community, of Bulloch County, Georgia.   Dr. Boyd attended Marvin Pittman Laboratory School and was a graduate of the class of 1953.  He earned his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees from Georgia Teachers College in Statesboro, Georgia and a Doctorate in Ecology from the University of Tennessee.   He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and National Guard.  Dr. Boyd taught science at Montgomery County High School for five years where he also served as assistant football coach.  He was a professor of biology at Brewton Parker College for 37 years, where he also served as Math and Science Division chair until his retirement in 2000.  Dr. Boyd was an active and devoted member of the Mount Vernon United Methodist Church. 

He was a kind, gentle soul who influenced many lives by just being himself.

Dr. Boyd is survived by his wife of 58 years, Carol Deloach Boyd of Mount Vernon, a daughter Kay Boyd Geiger of Destin, FL, two sons Haywood Kenneth Boyd (Susan) of Augusta and Michael Deloach Boyd (Cindy) of Lumber City, three grandchildren Katie Geiger Beacham (Jeff), Kaleb Boyd and Gordon Maloy, two great grandchildren Colton Beacham and Layla Beacham, a brother James Sherwood Boyd (Linda) of Statesboro and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Funeral services will be held at the Ronald V. Hall Funeral Home, Vidalia, Georgia on Thursday, October 8th at 11:00 a.m. with Reverend Arnold Raj and Larry Byrd officiating.  Interment will be in the Mount Vernon Memorial Cemetery. 

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday evening from 6:00 until 8:00.

Pallbearers will be Joe McGlamery, Pete Johnson, Kaleb Boyd, Jeff Beacham, Brent Sammons, and John Roller.  Honorary pallbearers will be Charlton Moseley, Colon Sammons, J.W. Reynolds and Gene McBride.
