Mrs. Debra McDaniel Brantley, age 63, of Lyons, died Wednesday, March 4, 2015 in the Piedmont Hospital in Atlanta, after an extended illness.  She was a native of Glenwood, and lived there until moving to Toombs County in 1984.  She was a 1970 graduate of Montgomery County High School, earned an Associate’s Degree from Brewton-Parker College, and also sang in the choir.  She earned her Bachelor’s, Master’s, and Specialist Degrees from Georgia Southern University.  She was a school psychologist for the Toombs County Board of Education, Special Education Director, and interim school superintendent in Appling County, with a combined thirty-six years in education.  She was a member of educational associations, including the Professional Association of Georgia Educators.  She was the recipient of the Lillie Moncus Award in special education, which is the highest honor given in special education.  J.P. and Associates honored her with National Educator of the Year Award.  She was a charter member of the Landmark Baptist Church in Lyons, and a former member of the Friendship Baptist Church in Glenwood.  She was preceded in death by her parents, John Burnice McDaniel and Jessie Marie Selph McDaniel.

Debra is survived by her husband, Dr. Kendall Brantley of Lyons; five children, Carmen Roberts and husband Reggie of Vidalia, Tara Powell and husband Joey of Dublin, Christi Gillis and husband Jim of Tarrytown, Stephanie Domingo and husband Winston of Lyons, and Jessica Hartley and husband Brandon of Lyons; two sisters, Judy Tipton and husband Keith of the Kibbee Community, and Cara Henry and husband Sam of Glenwood; one brother, Jerry McDaniel of Glenwood; thirteen grandchildren; one special aunt, June Adams of Dublin; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

The funeral service will be held Saturday, March 7th at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of Ronald V. Hall Funeral Home with Pastor Paul Jackson and Dr. Keith Tipton officiating.  Burial will follow in Edge Memorial Cemetery in Glenwood.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday from 4:00 until 8:00.
