Ms. Wilda Frances Doggett Merritt, age 90, of Lyons, died Wednesday, March 11, 2020, in Oxley Park Health and Rehabilitation in Lyons, after an extended illness. She was a native of Bladon Springs, Alabama, graduated high school there and moved to Lyons in 1949. She retired from the Lyons Police Department and was Baptist by faith. Wilda was proud of her American Indian Comanche heritage. She was preceded in death by her parents, Marvin Bishop Doggett and Connie Frances Doggett; and a sister, Myrtle Allen.
Ms. Merritt is survived by four children, Shawnee Merritt-Wright of Atlanta, Benjamin Thomas Merritt of Honolulu, Hawaii, Dart Merritt, and Jonathan Merritt and wife Philicia, all of Lyons; nine grandchildren, Adam Wright of Snellville, Benjamin Clark Wright of Covington, Richard Merritt and Ryan Merritt of California, Vanessa Merritt of Las Vegas, Nevada, Ariel Merritt of Lyons, Brandi Merritt and Nicholas Covington of Savannah, and Adam Covington of Atlanta, several great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, one niece, Sylvia Dugan and one nephew, Randall Allen.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday morning from 10:00 until just prior to the service.
The funeral service will be held Saturday, March 14th, at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel of Ronald V. Hall Funeral Home with Pastor Efton Green officiating.
Burial will follow in Lakeview Memorial Gardens.
