Mr. Wayne David Guyer: The Man, The Myth, and the Legend of Tarrytown, GA, passed away on July 9, 2019. He was born October 12, 1946 to Lawrence and Verda Mae Kregel Guyer in Guttenberg, Iowa.
The deer and the elk feared him; men wanted to be him; women wanted to be with him. But Lynn, his wife, of 37 years, held his heart. On any given day, you could find Wayne with Lynn gardening, hunting, fishing, chainsaw carving, or riding their faithful companions, Hank, Dora, Sugar, and Cookie on the UTV. Wayne was a proud Republican and loved his country. He served with the U.S.A.F. in 1965, and was honorably discharged in 1969.
He was a member of the Veteran of Foreign Wars in Savannah, an officer and detective with Chatham County Police Department from 1969-1981, owned Guyer Enterprise paintings from 1981-1982. He became a truck driver from 1982-1989, and later owned Wayne's Lawn Service. Due to a decline in health, he was forced to retire.
Wayne is survived by his loving wife, Lynn Guyer; daughters Melissa Pierce of Savannah and Christie Barbon and husband Steve of Hawkinsville; one son, Andy Guyer and wife Marina of Hawaii; siblings Janet Portman and husband Joel, Roger Guyer and wife Sue, Lorna Schwartz and husband Robert, Eunice Sluiter and husband Randall, Lynn Guyer and wife Lesa; one aunt Betty Kregel; two granddaughters; one grandson; fourteen nieces and nephews; and three great-nieces.
The committal service will be held Monday July 15th, at 10:00 a.m. in the Georgia Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 8819 US Hwy 301, Glennville, GA 30427.
