Mrs. Wanda Toole Collins, age 74, of the Johnson Corner Community, died Saturday, March 21, 2026, at Memorial Health in Savannah following a sudden illness. She was a native of Toombs County, living in Johnson Corner most of her life, and she was a 1969 graduate of Toombs Central School. She worked at Oxford Industries for seventeen years and was a lifelong member of Edmond Chapel Church of God where she was choir leader and adult Sunday school teacher. She sang at countless funerals throughout her life with her long-time friend and music partner, the late Betty Ann Pittman. She enjoyed fishing at Lake Sinclair, flower gardening, cooking, baking, and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Durwood Collins; son-in-law, James Jackson; parents, Isaiah Oliver “Rooster” Toole and Nanny Lou Hill Toole; two sisters, Jean Toole Wilkes and Grace Toole Smith; mother-in-law, Vondell Sewell Blaxton.
Mrs. Collins is survived by three daughters, Patty Collins Akridge and husband Pete of Stillmore, Shonda Jackson Whitney and husband David, and Dawn Collins Cauley and husband Jamie, all of Johnson Corner; eight grandchildren, Kyle Morris and wife April of Douglas, Jessica Joiner and husband Dylan of Johnson Corner, Kayla Jackson of Cartersville, Brittany Oglesby and husband Garrett of Millen, Austin Akridge and wife Kelly of Stillmore, T.J. Jackson of Dillard, Lily Cauley, and Kylie Whitney of Johnson Corner; seven great-grandchildren, Kylee, Hunter, Addy, Gannon, Maddox, Lillyan, and Jamesie Rae; six siblings, Ivy Toole and wife Sue, Ann Collins and husband Lawrence, all of Johnson Corner, Jobbie Toole and wife Sabrina of Vidalia, Connie Toole Beasley and husband Doyle of Cedar Crossing, Hilbert Toole and wife Michelle of Dublin, and Herbert Toole and wife Debbie of Vidalia; and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends at Edmond Chapel Church of God on Tuesday evening from 6:00 until 8:00.
The funeral service will be held on Wednesday afternoon, March 25, 2026, at 3:00 at Edmond Chapel Church of God with Pastor Nathan Pittman and Pastor Joey Copeland officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
Pallbearers are Ram Collins, Jimmy Collins, Timmy Collins, Kelly Collins, Lloyd Rollins, Blake Phillips, and Erie Miller.
