W. Max McKenzie Obituary

Mr. W. Max McKenzie, Sr., age 84, of Vidalia, died Wednesday, January 15, 2020, in Coliseum Hospital Northside in Macon, after an extended illness.  He was a native of Montgomery County, a 1952 graduate of Vidalia High School and attended Brewton-Parker College and the University of Georgia.  Early in his life, Max was a radio announcer in Vidalia, Baxley and Hawkinsville and was a U.S. Army veteran.  Working with Motorola, his position took him to Birmingham, Alabama where he lived for twenty years before returning home to Vidalia in 1981.  He was a member and Deacon of Tabernacle Baptist Church and the ABC Sunday School Class where he was a former teacher.  He was an avid flyer and a private pilot.  He was preceded in death by a daughter, Teri McKenzie Seay; a grandchild, Blake Seay; parents, Wilfred “Red” McKenzie and Tossie Williams McKenzie; and a brother, Theron McKenzie.

Mr. McKenzie is survived by his wife of sixty-five years, Ethelyn L. McKenzie of Vidalia; two sons, Max McKenzie, Jr. and wife Linda of Vidalia, and Mark McKenzie and wife Tammy of Birmingham; five grandchildren, Brandon McKenzie, Justin McKenzie, Xandria McKenzie Chaviers and husband David, Hunter Atkinson and Chris McKenzie; one great-grandchild, Sierra Chaviers; two brothers, Glenn McKenzie and wife Geraldine, and Ronnie McKenzie and wife Cuba, a sister-in-law, Ruby Joyce McKenzie, all of Vidalia; and several nieces and nephews.

The funeral service will be held Saturday, January 18th, at 3:00 p.m. in the chapel of Ronald V. Hall Funeral Home with Reverend Dr. Ronnie McKenzie and Reverend Bobby Thompson officiating.  Burial will follow in Pinecrest Cemetery with Military Honors.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday afternoon from 1:30 until just prior to the service.
