Mr. Vernon “Peabody” Harrell, age 61, of Lyons, died Monday, February 10, 2020, in Meadows Health in Vidalia, after an extended illness. He was a lifelong resident of Toombs County and was a 1976 graduate of Vidalia Comprehensive High School. He was the owner of Peabody’s Performance Center, Peabody Harrell Racing and was a longtime drag racer. He was a U.S. Army veteran and a member of the Ohoopee Baptist Church. He was a member and Past Master of Lyons Masonic Lodge #49, Past President of Quint Shrine Club in Lyons, Alee Shrine in Savannah and Sons of Confederate Veterans. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ottis Harrell and Dessie Blaxton Harrell; and two brothers, Clyde Harrell and Bill Harrell.
Mr. Harrell is survived by his wife, Shelby Harrell of Lyons; one daughter, Dana Harrell Beasley and husband Dubby of Uvalda; one son, Stevie Coleman of Lyons; two step-daughters, Tiffani Williams and James of Hendersonville, North Carolina, and Summer Ramsey of Lyons; two sisters, Hazel Harrell Williams and Wynoka Harrell Foskey; two brothers, James “Rooster” Harrell and Pansey Dunford, and David Harrell and Donna Powell, all of Vidalia; and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral service will be held Saturday, February 15th, at 3:00 p.m. in the chapel of Ronald V. Hall Funeral Home with Pastor Tom Ratliff and Pastor Joe Sannutti officiating. Burial will follow on the Harrell family property at his home with Military Honors and Masonic Rites.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday from 11:00 a.m. until just prior to the service.
