Vernie (Gillis) Wilcher

Mrs. Vernie Gillis Wilcher, age 66, of Lyons, died Thursday, April 17, 2025, at her daughter’s home in Lyons after a brief illness.  She was a native of Treutlen County, growing up in Soperton, and she was a 1976 graduate of Trinity Christian School in Dublin.  She moved to Lyons in 1996, and she was a graduate of Southeastern Technical College in Vidalia.  She worked at Oxford Industries in Vidalia, Savannah Luggage Works, and at Tumi Luggage in quality control.  She enjoyed fishing, cooking, thrifting, horses, celebrating holidays, collecting antique bowls, and spending time with family, especially her grandchildren.  She is preceded in death by her husband, Bill Wilcher; parents, Vernon Gillis and Gennie Dee Edge Gillis; one sister, Carolyn Gillis Tharpe; and two brothers, Harlow Gillis and T.G. Gillis.

Her family includes three children, Craig Story and wife Kristi, Lance Story and wife Kaycee, and Adrenna Howell and husband Josh, all of Lyons; one brother, Vernon Gillis of Soperton; two sisters, Shirley Gillis Crowe of Macon, and Wanda Gail Gillis Willis and husband Larry of Soperton; ten grandchildren, Caleb, Kaitlyn, Baylie, Ethan, Brayden, Conner, Bensen, Kellie, Layton, and Abby; and several nieces and nephews.

There will not be a funeral service, however the family will have a visitation and viewing on Monday afternoon, April 21st, 2025, from 1:00 until 3:00 at Ronald V. Hall Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Community Hospice Foundation, PO Box 2277, Vidalia, GA 30475.
