Verlie Daws Lawson, 91, went to her heavenly home, on Sunday, April 25, 2021 at Hospice of the Golden Isles, Brunswick, GA. She was born November 5, 1929, and raised in Atlanta, GA. She was a positive, vivacious, kind-hearted, happy and beloved mother of three children; grandmother of five; great-grandmother of nine; and a baby sister to her brother, who preceded her in death in 1965. She was an aunt to many nieces and nephews; sister-in-law; and loyal friend to people all over the US (from California to Toombs County). After retiring in 1993 from the Georgia Film Industry, she moved to Lyons to be close to her dear friend, Lluuana Williams. Verlie was employed as a Driver/Teamster for Local 528 working on numerous films and TV shows that filmed in the Atlanta area, seven of those years working on the hit TV show “In the Heat of the Night”. She was a grateful member of the Coffee Girls club in Toombs County; and a proud member of the quilting ladies at her home church of South Thompson Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her parents, Nathan Daws, Sr. and Beulah Martin Daws; and her brother Nathan Daws, Jr.
Verlie is survived by two daughters, Marsha Lawson of St. Mary’s, and Pam Lawson Hudgens of Orlando, Florida; one son, Larry Lawson and wife Carol of Atlanta; grandchildren (youngest to oldest) Jake Lawson of Atlanta, Abby Lawson, Jackson Hole, Wyoming, Meisha Lawson Ross and Adam Ross of Park City, Utah, Justin Lawson and wife Elizabeth Lawson of San Diego, California, Scott Hudgens and wife Dr. Jeanette Hudgens of Windermere, Florida; great-grandchildren Ridge Hudgens, Brock Hudgens, Pierce Hudgens, Amelia Hudgens, Lachlan Ross, Lander Ross, Celia Lawson, Holden Lawson and Ryan Lawson; and last, but not least, numerous cherished friends.
The graveside funeral service will be held Thursday, April 29th at 11:00 a.m. at the South Thompson Baptist Church, Vidalia, GA with Reverend BL Horne officiating.
