Tyra (Mimbs) Kirkland

Mrs. Tyra Mimbs Kirkland, age 85, of the Johnson Corner Community, died Friday, October 20, 2023, at Memorial Health in Savannah.  She was a native of Tattnall County, growing up in Collins, later moving to Toombs County where she attended Toombs Central School.  She retired from Oxford Industries after many years.  She enjoyed baking cakes, cooking, sewing, making quilts, and spending time with grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  She is preceded in death by her husband, William B. “Billy” Kirkland; grandson, Anthony Kirkland, Jr.; parents, Felton Mimbs and Vashti Boyette Mimbs Phillips; one sister, Lois Mimbs Spivey; and two brothers, Charles Mimbs and Harley Mimbs.

Her family includes four children, Bobby Kirkland and wife Susan of Johnson Corner, Kaye Usher and husband Randy of the New Branch Community, Michelle Peebles and husband Dickey of Augusta, and Dwayne Kirkland and wife Becky of Johnson Corner; two sisters, Rachel Dampier of Pt. Wentworth and Betty Carol Jones of Vidalia; eight grandchildren, Jason Kirkland and wife Christy, Melissa Davenport and husband Madison, Leigha Salyer and husband Nathan, Jamie Usher, Travis Usher and wife Pam, Ashleigh Harman and husband Thomas, Jeremy Peebles and fiancé Ashlee Cobb, and Sierra Kirkland-Foster and husband Rob; twelve great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday afternoon, October 23rd, from 1:00 until just prior the funeral service at 3:00 in the chapel of Ronald V. Hall Funeral Home with Pastor Joe Phillips officiating.  Burial will follow at Lakeview Memorial Gardens.
