Larry “Troy” Wimpey, 51, devoted and loving husband, father, papa, son, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 2, 2021. Troy was known by all he met as a happy, friendly, good, and Godly Christian man.
He was always quick with a kind word, a prayer for anyone who needed one, a helping hand, and many completely useless pieces of information, always preceded by a pointed finger and enthusiastic “Did you know…?”, all with a smile on his face. He took great pride in his business, Wimpey’s Custom Designs Cabinet Company, which he spent 25+ years building. No matter how challenging the job, his craftsmanship and creativity knew no bounds. He was known for the care and perfectionism he poured into each piece and set of cabinets that he made.
As proud as he was of his life’s work, Troy’s greatest pride and joy was his family.
He is survived by the love of his life and wife of 28 wonderful years, Sabrina Wimpey; his children, Alexandria McGlynn and husband Brandon, Tyler Wimpey and Marisa, Troy Abram Wimpey, and Alayna Wimpey; his three beautiful granddaughters, Charlotte McGlynn, Evangeline “Evie” McGlynn, and Amelia “Millie Jane” Wimpey; his parents, Larry and Dorothy Wimpey; his sister, Kristie Williams and Jeff; his honorary sister, Jessica Conner; his mother-in-law, Jolene Coulter; his brothers-in-law and sisters-in law, Will and Cindy Jarriel, Hope and Derric Tubbs, and Jarrod Bottoms; and extended family and friends too numerous to count. He is preceded in death and is now rejoicing in Heaven with many loved family members and dear friends.
He was a member of Calvary’s Grace Baptist Church in Ailey, Georgia, where he humbly served as song leader and Teen Sunday School teacher for over fifteen years. He was a beloved role-model and source of wisdom for all “his kids” that he taught with the help of his wife.
Troy enjoyed the working out at the gym, and relished his time on the river in his boat after a long week of hard work. He was particularly invested in the collection of fruit trees he tended in his back yard, and regularly kept his family informed of how many fruits he had collected that day, in spite of the efforts of “those stinkin’ squirrels”, with whom he had an ongoing feud.
More than anything, Troy loved spending time with his family. Many happy memories were made sitting around the kitchen table eating, talking, and playing board games; countless fishing trips, cookouts, birthday parties, and family trips were had; he enthusiastically agreed whenever he heard the words “Papa, go ridin’?”, and was always up for any time he could spend with his loved ones.
Troy was a loving, faithful, and most of all Godly man. He loved his Lord above all else, and that love showed in everything he did and every life he touched. He is so loved, and will be so missed.
