Mr. John Thomas “Tommy” Tipton III, age 79, of Glenwood, died Monday, November 18, 2024, at his brother’s home after a brief illness. He was a native of Wheeler County and lived in Glenwood most of his life. He was a 1963 graduate of Montgomery County High School, earning an Associate degree at Brewton-Parker College and attended Georgia Southern College. In 1968, he entered the U.S. Army and served in Vietnam in Artillery. He was a draftsman at Georgia High Tech for many years and currently was serving on the Glenwood Housing Authority. He was a lifelong member of First Baptist Church of Glenwood where he served as Trustee and Chairman of the Ushers. He is preceded in death by his parents, John Thomas Tipton, Jr. and Martha Delores Palmer Tipton.
His family includes one daughter, Anna Delores Tipton of Vidalia; three grandchildren, Jason, Justin, and Joshua; one sister, Norma Linda Tipton Taylor and husband Bobby of Americus; one brother, Dr. Keith Tipton and wife Judy of Glenwood; and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends on Saturday afternoon, November 23rd, 2024, from 1:30 until just prior to the funeral service at 3:00 at First Baptist Church of Glenwood with Pastor Kevin Hammons and Gerald Tipton officiating. Burial will follow at Edge Memorial Gardens in Glenwood.
