Mr. Thomas Edward “Tom” Lawrence, age 75, of Griffin, died Wednesday, July 4, 2018, in Piedmont Atlanta Hospital.  He was a native of Syracuse, New York, and graduated high school there.  He was a 1964 graduate of Piedmont College earning a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration.  He retired after many years from Georgia Power as District Marketing Manager.  He lived in Spaulding and Putnam County most of his life, was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Milledgeville, and since recently moving to Griffin, he attended the First United Methodist Church of Griffin.  He was a former member of the Kiwanis Club in Decatur, served twelve years on the Putnam County Board of Education, and while with Georgia Power, he was involved with the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta.  Until his death, Tom enjoyed social activities, including the Sun City Peachtree Community Association in Griffin.  He was preceded in death by his wife, Janice Brazelton Lawrence; and parents, George Thomas Lawrence and Elizabeth Martin Buckman Lawrence.

Mr. Lawrence is survived by two children, Angela Goodwin and husband Phillip of Fayetteville, and Ryan T. Lawrence and wife Stephanie of Elizabeth City, North Carolina; two sisters, Joan Lee Lawrence and Elizabeth “Libby” Birdwell; seven grandchildren, Kimberly Warnock and husband Brad, Alex Goodwin, Cayla Felts, Ashton Felts, Jenny Goodwin, Andrew Goodwin, and Tyler Lawrence; one great-grandchild, Callen Warnock; and several nieces and nephews.

A graveside funeral service will be held Thursday, July 12th at 1:00 p.m. in the Mt. Vernon Memorial Cemetery with Reverend Wayne McDaniel officiating.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday morning from 11:30 until 12:30.
