Mr. Thomas Newton “Tom” Kramer, age 89, of Mt. Vernon, died Tuesday, November 16, 2021, at Treutlen Health and Rehab. He was born in Higgston, lived in Toombs County most of his life, and in Mt. Vernon since 1999. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran, serving in the Korean War. He was the recipient of the National Defense Service Medal and the Korean Service Medal. He was a member of the American Legion Post #97 and Veterans of Foreign Wars. He retired after twenty-seven years from the U.S. Postal Service in Lyons and was a member of NALC Postal Union since 1966. He was a member of the Center United Methodist Church, attended the First Baptist Church of Mt. Vernon, and was a former member of Lyons Masonic Lodge #49. He is preceded in death by his parents, Senator Foster Kramer and Ruby Mae Powell; and a sister, Joanne Kramer Ovens.
His family includes his wife, Olline Drawdy Kramer of Mt. Vernon; two children, Kathy Kramer Walker of Alma, and Gary Kramer of Baxley; one sister, Doris Williams of Hawaii; three brothers, Floyd Kramer and wife Lucy of Cedar Crossing, Billy Kramer and wife Shelby, and Dale Kramer and wife Ellen, all of the Center Community; and several grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
The funeral service will be Friday, November 19th, at 12:00 noon in the chapel of Ronald V. Hall Funeral Home with his nephew, Pastor Melvin Kramer and his sister-in-law, Pastor Virginia Herrington officiating. Burial will follow at Lakeview Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday morning from 11:00 until just prior to the service.
