Mr. Talmadge Dean “Tal” Dopson, Jr. age 65, of Uvalda, died Wednesday, October 16, 2024, at his home under the care of Community Hospice, following an extended illness. He was a native of Montgomery County and lived in Uvalda most of his life. He was a 1977 graduate of Montgomery County High School and attended Brewton-Parker College. He worked general construction several years, Continental Can Sawmill in Hazlehurst several years, and retired from Georgia Department of Corrections at Indian Ford Farm near Lyons. He was a member of Uvalda Community Church, former member and past Master of Milliken Creek Masonic Lodge #302, and former Uvalda Fire Chief of Uvalda Fire Department. Tal enjoyed playing cards, watching Westerns, especially Gunsmoke, John Wayne movies, and keeping up with daily events of grandchildren. Preceding him in death was his wife of forty-two years, Pamela Woods Dopson; and parents, Talmadge Dean Dopson, Sr. and Shirley Faye Craft Dopson.
His family includes his daughter, Lesli Dopson Garrett and husband David; three grandchildren, Asa “Ace” Dean Garrett, Jocey Marie Garrett, and Charlotte Delaine Garrett, all of the New Branch Community; one brother, Jeffery Dopson and wife Stephanie of Uvalda; nieces and nephews, Caleb, Emily, Levi, and Anna; one great-niece, Abigail; and long-time friends, Helen Sanders, Rhonda Highsmith, and Duke and Janice Knowles.
The family will receive friends at Tal’s home at 298 Bud Denton Road, Uvalda, beginning at 3:00 on Thursday afternoon.
A graveside funeral service will be Friday afternoon, October 18th, 2024, at 2:00 at Uvalda City Cemetery with Pastor Reece Mincey and Ken Garrett officiating.
