Mrs. Sylvia L. Dennis, age 79, of the English Eddy Community, died Sunday, August 15, 2021, at her home after a brief illness. She was a native of Toombs County, living there most of her life, and in English Eddy since 1965. She was a 1960 graduate of Toombs Central High School; she earned an Associate degree from Abraham-Baldwin Agricultural College in Tifton, and Bachelor’s degree in History from Georgia Southern College in Statesboro. She retired as director after more than 30 years with the Toombs County Department of Children and Family Services. She was a member of the former English Eddy Presbyterian Church. She is preceded in death by her parents, Jim Willard “JW” Lockley and Flora Belle George Lockley; and sister, Diane Lockley Pennington.
Her family includes her husband of fifty-eight years, Fred Dennis of English Eddy; two children, Tami Paulitta Dennis of Arlington, Virginia, and Freddy Dennis and wife Jennifer of English Eddy; one sister, Gail Lockley Leith of the Providence Community; one sister-in-law, Carol Dennis of St. Simons Island; four grandchildren, Jenna Stuckey and husband Michael of Alpharetta, Will Dennis (US Coast Guard) and wife Sarah of Houston, Texas, Erin Dennis of Washington, D.C., and Brandon Dennis of English Eddy; five great-grandchildren, James Stuckey and Sophie Sylvia Stuckey, Liam Dennis and Rhea Dennis, and Camilla Dennis; and two nieces, Tara Cusick and Kara Shuck.
A remembrance gathering will be Saturday, October 1st, 2022 at the funeral home from 5:00 until 7:00.
