Sueko Taira Schumacher, age 82, of Vidalia, died Wednesday, January 29, 2025, at Memorial Health Meadows Hospital in Vidalia following an extended illness. She was born in the Marina Islands, and she grew up in Okinawa, where she called home. She married her husband who was in the Air Force and they lived in several parts of the U.S., including Alaska, California, where she lived for many years, and Colorado before moving to Vidalia three years ago. While living in Alaska, she worked for the Department of Defense. She enjoyed traveling, sewing, rose gardening, and Japanese music. A son, Johnny Gordon Schumacher; parents, Jiro Taira and Toshi Arakake Taira; and brother, Fumioeo Taira, precede her in death.
Her family includes three children, Kriss Blount and husband Tony of Vidalia, Linda Koral and husband Dan of Plant City, Florida, and Brian Schumacher of Anchorage, Alaska; three grandchildren, Chelsea Koral and Daniel Koral of Plant City, and Jacquelyn Jedlicka of Vidalia; one brother, Massau Taira; two sisters, Yoshiko Kinjo and Hatsko Taira , all of Okinawa; and several nieces and nephews.
No services will be held.
