Steve Chambers Obituary

Mr. Steve Chambers, age 71, of the Cedar Crossing Community, died Wednesday, April 9, 2025, at his home following an extended illness.  He was a native of Toombs County and lived near Cedar Crossing all of his life.  He was a 1972 graduate of Toombs Central School.  He farmed for several years, worked at Edwin I. Hatch Plant, Piggly Wiggly Southern, and retired after twenty-four years from the Vidalia Board of Education at Vidalia City Schools in maintenance.  He was a lifelong member of Smyrna Church, serving as Sunday school superintendent, and was chairman of the men’s club and cemetery committee.  He enjoyed the outdoors, camping, fishing, cows, goats and chickens.  His parents, James Lewis Chambers and Myrtice Louise NeeSmith Chambers; one sister, Lenora Chambers Burkett; and two brothers, Randall Chambers and Wyman Chambers, precede him in death.

His family includes his wife of fifty-one years, Dale J. Chambers; two children, Sharon Chambers Hart and Michael Chambers and wife April, all of Cedar Crossing; six grandchildren, Cameron Chambers and wife Katie of Hazlehurst, Ethan Chambers, USMC stationed in San Diego, California, Ansleigh Chambers of Lyons, Hope Hart of Cedar Crossing, Shelly Taylor and husband Ty of Hazlehurst, and Cale Brantley and wife McKenzie of Towns; two great-grandchildren, Liam Lariscey and Lawson Chambers; one brother, Ronnie Chambers and wife Sue of Cedar Crossing; three sisters, Nellie Chambers Parker and Dorothy Chambers Brantley and husband Jimmy al of Cedar Crossing, and Beverly Chambers Carpenter of Uvalda; and numerous nieces and nephews.

The funeral service will be Friday afternoon, April 11th, 2025, at 3:00 in the chapel of Ronald V. Hall Funeral Home with Pastor Melvin Kramer officiating.  Burial will follow in the Smyrna Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday afternoon from 12:00 noon until just prior to the service.
