Stanley E. Young

Mr. Stanley E. Young, age 76, of Vidalia, died Thursday, October 17, 2024, at his home, after an extended illness.  He was born in Jacksonville, Florida, moved to Lyons as a child, and was a 1966 graduate of Lyons High School.  He earned an Associate degree from Brewton-Parker College and diplomas in Christian Education, Theology, and Music from Baptist Bible Institute.  He served several churches as minister of music in Alabama, Georgia, and Florida.  After returning to Lyons in 1980, he served as minister of music at Smith Street Baptist Church, Morningside Baptist Church in Treutlen County, First Baptist Church of Lyons, First Baptist Church of Brooklet, Fairview Baptist Church of Lyons, and South Thompson Baptist Church.  He retired as a hardware sales representative after more than forty years.  Mr. Young enjoyed yard work, tinkering, playing golf, fishing, and building things.  He was an avid Vidalia Indian football fan, and supported his grandson in his sporting events.  He is preceded in death by his parents, James Martin Young and Alice Lee Bush Young; and a sister, Sarah Young Morris.

His family includes his wife of fifty years, Drenda P. Young; two children, Amanda Young Edwards, both of Vidalia, and SSG Christopher M. Young and wife Julie of Washington D.C.; three grandchildren, Chase Edwards and fiancé Kalli Anderson of Glenwood, and Brandon Young and Grayson Young of Washington, D.C.; one brother, Sam E. Young of Lyons; and several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday afternoon, October 20th, 2024, from 3:00 until 5:00.

A private family Celebration of Life will be held later.
