Mrs. Sharon “Cookie” Burns, age 76, of Vidalia, died Wednesday, April 28, 2021, at the Community Hospice House in Vidalia after a brief illness. She was a native of Chicago, Illinois and was raised in Orlando, Florida. She lived in Sarasota, Florida and Bradenton, Florida before moving to Vidalia in 1986. She worked a paraprofessional with Vidalia City Schools for eleven years, was an active member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Vidalia. She enjoyed playing golf, and was a member of the former Vidalia Country Club and the former Rocky Creek Golf Club. She is preceded in death by a son, Curtis Ray Burns, Jr.; and parents, George Henry Homan and Eleanor Tyc Homan.
Survivors include her husband of fifty-two years, Ray Burns; one daughter, Dorre Burns, both of Vidalia; one brother, George “Sonny” Homan of Lake Worth, Florida; four grandchildren, Iesha Burns, Sharon Tolbert, Eddie Tolbert, and Tyrek Burns; eight great-grandchildren, and one niece.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday evening from 6:00 until 8:00.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be Wednesday, May 5th, at 11:00 a.m. in the Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Burial will follow in Lakeview Memorial Gardens.
