Mrs. Sharon Slone Kocourek, age 66, of Glenwood, died Thursday, July 16, 2026, at her home in Glenwood after a sudden illness. She was born in Warsaw, Indiana, but was proud of her Kentucky roots. She moved to Wheeler County several years ago and was a homemaker and a caregiver to many. She was an excellent cook; she loved gardening, traveling, and her coffee. She enjoyed life and loved to laugh and make others laugh. She was proud of her roots and southern heritage and traveled to and from the Appalachian Mountains to the Midwest, many times on the “Hillbilly Highway”.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Orville Slone and Mary Elizabeth Taylor Slone; daughter, Angela Marie; and several brothers and sisters.
Mrs. Kocourek is survived by her husband, Larry Kocourek; one daughter, Christine Tarpley and husband Daniel, all of Glenwood; five grandchildren, Elizebeth Newsome and husband Eric, Wynette Tarpley, Aaron Tarpley, Jakob Tarpley, and Caleb McBee; three brothers, Daniel Slone, Mark Slone, and Ronald Slone; one sister, Justin Megething; and several nieces and nephews.
