Sammy Sanders

Mr. Sammy Sanders, age 90, of Uvalda, died Sunday, May 9, 2021, at Ogeechee Area Hospice in Statesboro surrounded by his family, following an extended illness.  He was a lifelong resident of Montgomery County and lived most of his life in Uvalda.  He retired after thirty years as a rural mail carrier, and was a member of the Uvalda Baptist Church, and recently attended Smyrna United Methodist Church.  He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War Era and a member of VFW Post #10229 in Mt. Vernon.  He was an avid fisherman, and golfer; and in 1998, while playing golf at Jeff Davis Country Club in Hazlehurst, he was recognized on the Golf Channel as having a hole-in-one. He is preceded in death by twin infant daughters; an infant son, parents, Simp Sanders and Gladys Pollette Sanders; and two brothers, Billy Sanders and Ephraim Sanders.  

Survivors include his wife of sixty-two years, Betty Mimbs Sanders of Uvalda; two children, Scott Sanders and wife Tara, and Pam Sanders, all of Statesboro; three grandchildren, Jarrod Humphrey, Addie Sanders, and Sela Sanders.

The funeral service will Tuesday, May 11th, at 3:00 p.m. in the chapel of Ronald V. Hall Funeral Home with Pastor Ron Johnson and Roy Mimbs officiating.  Burial will follow in the Uvalda City Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday afternoon from 2:00 until just prior to the service.
