Sam A. Barr

Mr. Sam Albert Barr, age 70, died Sunday, June 6, 2021, at Memorial University Medical Center in Savannah after a sudden illness.  Sam was born in Phenix City, Alabama, grew up in Smiths, Alabama, but lived most of his life in Vidalia.  Sam was a member of Vidalia First Baptist Church.  Mr. Barr began his work career with Georgia Power Company in Alabama and later moved to Vidalia to work for Southern Nuclear Company at Plant Hatch for thirty-three years.  He later worked at various nuclear power plants in several states as Project Manager before he retired in 2017.

Sam loved fishing, golfing, camping, the outdoors, the Georgia Bulldogs, and his dog, Buddy.  Sam made friends easily wherever he was and had a great sense of humor.  He enjoyed spending time with friends and family at Lake Oconee.  He is preceded in death by his parents, Sam W. Barr and Marie Jernigan Barr, and sister Betty Clements.

Survivors include his loving wife of fifty-one years, Joanne Barr; sons, Matt and Ben Barr, all of Vidalia; one daughter Kate Barr Parkerson and husband Matt of Atlanta; grandchildren, Jessie Anderson and Chase Barr of Hazlehurst, Maggie and Abby Barr of Vidalia, and Beau Parkerson of Atlanta; two great-grandchildren Eli Anderson and Leo Barr, and another great-grandchild to be born in June; several nieces, nephews, and cousins also survive. 

The funeral service will be held Wednesday June 9th, at 3:00 p.m. at Ronald V. Hall Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Don Moye officiating.  Burial will follow in Lakeview Memorial Gardens. 

The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 1:00 until just prior to the service.
