Sam McCullough Obituary

Mr. Sam McCullough, age 92, of the Ohoopee Community, died Friday, January 3, 2025, at the Community Hospice House in Vidalia, following a brief illness.  He was a native of Toombs County, living in Ohoopee all of his life.  He was one of eleven children, and was born on May 14, 1932, to the late Franklin Lamar McCullough and Jenny Frances Tharpe.  He was a 1949 graduate of Ohoopee School.  He was a lifelong farmer; he worked at Davis Tractor and Taylor Equipment in Lyons, and later retired after nineteen years from Rogers State Prison in Reidsville.  He was a lifelong member of the Ohoopee Baptist Church where he served as a deacon, Chairman of the Deacons, and taught Sunday school.  He enjoyed the outdoors, especially fishing, watching sports, and playing football and baseball in his early years.  In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by nine siblings, Eva Powell Dickerson, Ann Boyd, Hugh McCullough, Mildred Kennedy, Betty McCullough, Franklin McCullough, Bobbie Peeks, Margie Talley, and Joel McCullough.       

His family includes his wife of seventy-three years, Bobbie Meeks McCullough; two children, Martha McCullough Hart and husband Joey, and Johnny McCullough and Wife Laura, all of Ohoopee; seven grandchildren, Brad Hart and wife Tracy of Lyons, Justin Hart and wife Rebecca of Pembroke, Garren McCullough of Blackshear, Chris Cox and wife Brittany of Augusta, Kourtnie Farrow and husband Casey of Lyons, Brandon Cox of Lyons, and Victoria Beasley and husband Daniel of Vidalia ; four great-grandchildren, Clay, Cason, Caleb, and Easton Hart; one sister, Mary Ballard of Covington; and numerous nieces and nephews.  

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday afternoon, January 7th, 2025, from 1:30 until just prior to the service at 3:00 in the chapel of Ronald V. Hall Funeral Home with Johnny McCullough and Pastor Daniel Beasley officiating.  Burial will follow at Ohoopee Community Cemetery.
