Ruth Williamson Obituary

Mrs. Ruth Mitchum Williamson, age 80, of Treutlen County, died Tuesday, July 16, 2024, at the Community Hospice House in Vidalia, following an extended illness.  She was born in Toombs County on March 28, 1944, to the late Ralph Mitchum and Georgia Colbert Mitchum.  She lived in the Vidalia area most of her life before moving to Treutlen County twenty-three years ago.  She worked at Oxford Manufacturing and Globe Manufacturing in Vidalia for many years.  She was a member of Mt. Shady Missionary Baptist Church.  She enjoyed flower gardening, decorating for Christmas, yard work, and spending time at the Ohoopee River fishing.  In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by two brothers, Johnny Mitchum and Billy Jones; one sister, Bobbie Faye Gulden; and a special niece, Judy Fuller.

Her family includes her husband of sixty-one years, J.W. “JBird” Williamson; one son, Paul Williamson and wife Tina Clark Williamson; one daughter, Salina Williamson Collins and husband Kevin Collins, all of Vidalia; one brother, Earl Mitchum of the Five Points Community; six grandchildren, Whitley Williamson Ledford and husband Wil Ledford of Higgston, Katie Williamson Cheshire and husband Stacy Cheshire, Georgia Shay Williamson Peebles and husband Tyler Peebles, Samuel Collins and wife Bricyn Fitzgerald Collins, and Daniel Collins, all of Vidalia, and Beth Collins Stein and husband Eric Stein of St. Augustine, Florida; seven great-grandchildren, Paisley Ledford, Kendall Ledford, Sawyer Ledford, Izzy Ledford, Jackson Cheshire, Tanner Stein, and Grayson Stein; and several nieces and nephews.

The funeral service will be Friday morning, July 19th, at 11:00 in the chapel of Ronald V. Hall Funeral Home with Pastor Owen Waters officiating.  Burial will follow at Mt. Shady Missionary Baptist Church.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday morning from 10:00 until just prior to the service.
