Mrs. Rose Crockett McRae, age 97, died Thursday, December 19, 2024, at The Oaks Assisted Living in Vidalia. She was a native of Dublin, Georgia and later moved to Montgomery County when she married Duncan A. McRae, Jr. Following the death of her husband, she moved to Savannah where she lived until May of 2024. She was born August 27, 1927 to the late Charles Campbell Crockett and Louise Holleman Crockett. She was a graduate of Wesleyan College and Katherine Gibbs School, New York, NY, earning a Bachelor’s degree. She was Presbyterian by faith and attended Mt. Vernon Presbyterian Church for many years, and later The Independence Presbyterian Church in Savannah.
Rose enjoyed working with flowers, especially African violets, and she had been an active member and past Vice-President of the Mt. Vernon Garden Club. She served as chair of the Montgomery County Library Board and was a member of the General Richard Montgomery Chapter, Daughters of the American Colonists. She was a member of the Land Lovers Club of The Landings and The Chatham Club in Savannah. She was an avid Atlanta Braves fan.
Rose is survived by her nephew, Dr. Philip McRae and wife Ginger of Vidalia and her cousin, Jane Holleman of Dublin.
A graveside funeral service will be Sunday afternoon, December 22nd, 2024, at 2:00 at Mt. Vernon Memorial Cemetery with Pastor Jim Smith officiating.
The family would like to thank Lauren and the wonderful staff of The Oaks Assisted Living for their love and kindness shown to Rose during her time as a resident. Many thanks to Community Hospice for their compassionate care and special thanks to Danielle Plante for her devotion as Rose’s caregiver.
