Mr. Ronnie Wiggins, age 82, of Lyons, died peacefully on Wednesday, May 14, 2025, at the Community Hospice House in Vidalia following an extended illness. He was a native of Emanuel County, living in the Lyons and Oak Park area all of his life, and he was a 1960 graduate of Swainsboro High School. He worked as a union carpenter for many years, working at Georgia Pacific and various other nuclear plants and paper mills, and he was supervisor during the installation of the Savannah floodgates. He was the first superintendent at Plant Vogtle during the initial construction, he was owner of a steel fabrication shop, and was co-owner of Ron-Dale Bus Line. More recently, Mr. Wiggins was construction manager for Meriwether County during their schools’ construction phase. He was a member of Bible Baptist Church of Vidalia and a former Mason and Shriner. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, riding his tractor, playing softball, and coaching baseball and softball at Lyons Recreation Department. A son, Chris Wiggins; parents, Leon McKinley Wiggins and Lanie Brinson Joiner Wiggins; one brother, Gene “Big G” Wiggins; and four sisters, Jo Ann Wiggins, Merkie Lee Wiggins Wilkes, Faye Wiggins Wilkes, and Carolyn Wiggins Demolfetto, precede him in death.
His family includes two children, Tammy Wiggins McFadden and Kyle Wiggins and wife Melissa, all of Lyons; one sister, Etherine Wiggins Lollis of Bryan County; five grandchildren, Tom Maddox, Jordan McFadden and wife Lindsay, Courtney Wiggins, Kylie Wiggins, and Ryan Wiggins, all of Lyons; one great-granddaughter, Emersyn McFadden; two former wives, Dale Wiggins and Joyce Wiggins; and numerous nieces and nephews.
The graveside funeral service will be Saturday morning, May 17th, 2025, at 11:00 at Lyons City Cemetery with Pastor Michael Plowman officiating.
The family will receive friends at the cemetery on Saturday morning from 10:00 until just prior to the service.
