"Ronnie" Colbert Obituary

Mr. Archie Ronald “Ronnie” Colbert, age 70, of Vidalia, Georgia, died July 16, 2025, at the Community Hospice House in Vidalia following a brief illness.  He was raised in Toombs County and attended Toombs County High School, where he was very active in the Future Farmers of America Organization.  He worked as a senior welder at Sea Island Cotton Gin and Georgia High Tech in Vidalia for many years, after which he became a certified EMT.  Eventually, he became a partner in Sikes Fabrication in Metter, Georgia, and then founded ARC Machine & Welding in Vidalia.  He worked at Pizza Inn for a brief period and retired as co-owner of Colbert Funeral Transport in Vidalia.  He was an active Freemason.

“Pops”, as many knew him, was a true outdoorsman and loved hunting, fishing and camping.  He believed in the Boy Scouts of America and served as a Scoutmaster for several years.  He was known for his mastery skills of having a green thumb and bird watching.  In years past, you would find him grilling hamburgers at the Toombs County Football games.  His favorite pastime was spending time with his grandsons.  He is preceded in death by two sisters, Loretta Harrington and Patsy Corn; three brothers, Travis Colbert, Stevie Colbert and Donald Colbert; and former mother-in-love, Joyce Harbin “Mama-Jo”.

He is survived by two sons, Jason Colbert and husband Scott Phillips, and Juston Colbert, all of Vidalia; four grandchildren, Carson Colbert, Conner Colbert, and McKinnley Phillips, all of Vidalia, and Layten Phillips of Port Wentworth; a sister, Betty Durden and husband Curtis of Lyons; a special daughter, Danielle Williamson of Collins; a very special adopted sister, Sheila Wilkes of Lyons; and several nieces and nephews.

The family would like to express their sincere appreciation for the residents and staff of Treutlen Health & Rehabilitation in Soperton for the excellent care provided to “Archie”. He loved each of them and thought of them as family.

Special thanks to the staff of Memorial Health Meadows Hospital and Community Hospice for the outstanding care provided during his brief illness.

A memorial service will be Sunday afternoon, July 20, 2025, at 4:30 in the chapel of Ronald V. Hall Funeral Home with Pastor Brian Durden and Jason Colbert officiating.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday afternoon from 3:30 until just prior to the service.
