Mr. Ronald Alton Powell, age 85, of Vidalia, died Tuesday, March 3, 2026, at his home following an extended illness. He was a native of Toombs County and lived there and Montgomery County most of his life. He was a 1958 graduate of Lyons High School, and attended the Citadel in Charleston, South Carolina and Southern Tech in Marietta. He was a lifelong farmer and was selected a “Man of the Year” in Montgomery County. He was a residential contractor, he worked at several nuclear plants as an engineer, and was owner of the former Altamaha Farm Supply in Uvalda. He enjoyed the outdoors, fishing, gardening, yard work, traveling, riding around the countryside, cooking, grilling, canning, entertaining countless family and friends at his cabin, gospel and country music, and his many dogs he had throughout his life.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Alma Lee Powell and Delma Arlene Beckworth Powell; and two sisters, Elizabeth Powell Greenway and Mary Lou Powell Spikes.
Mr. Powell is survived by his wife, Geri Powell; two sons, Glynn Powell, both of Vidalia, and Brian Powell of Baxley; one brother, Larry Powell of Reidsville; four grandchildren, Reed Powell of Ashville, North Carolina, Nick Powell of Statesboro, Caroline Powell of Vidalia, and Casey McGowan and husband Tyler of Raeford, North Carolina; two great-grandchildren, Mylan and Charlotte; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, March 6, 2026, at 11:00 in the chapel of Ronald V. Hall Funeral Home with Pastor Chris Vinson officiating.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday morning from 10:00 until just prior to the service.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations to the Community Hospice Foundation, PO Box 2277, Vidalia, GA 30475.
