Grays Landing Community,
Mr. Roger D. Cook, Sr., age 73, of the Gray’s Landing Community, died Sunday, February 17, 2019, in Meadows Health in Vidalia, after an extended illness. Roger was a native of Toombs County and lived in Gray’s Landing all of his life. He farmed all of his life, and retired from Hazlehurst Mills after thirty years. He was a member of the Smyrna United Methodist Church. He was preceded in death by his wife, Joan Palmer Cook; a son, Roger D. Cook, Jr.; parents, Wilson Burke Cook and Eudell Claxton Cook; and seven siblings, W.B. Cook, Maxwell Cook, Jim Howard Cook, John Ezra Cook, Herbert Cook, Guy Cook, and Edison Cook.
Mr. Cook is survived by two daughters, Melissa Cook Barr and husband Joseph, and Cynthia Cook and Gary Carter, all of Gray’s Landing; three grandchildren, Kristin Stanford and husband Dexter of Pooler, Chasity Griffin and husband Kenneth of Denton, and Samantha Carter of Gray’s Landing; three great-grandchildren, Oaklyn, Daxton, and Emry; and numerous nieces and nephews.
The funeral service will be Wednesday, February 20th at 11:00 a.m. in the Cedar Crossing Baptist Church with Pastor Reece Mincey, Reverend Bobby Toole, and Reverend Ron Johnson officiating. Burial will follow in the Smyrna United Methodist Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at Cedar Crossing Baptist Church on Tuesday evening from 6:00 until 8:00.
