Mr. Robert L. “Bob” Moore, Jr., age 71, of Lyons, died Sunday, May 11, 2025, after a sudden illness. He was born in Swainsboro on January 28, 1954, and the family moved to Lyons in 1967. He was a 1972 graduate of Robert Toombs Christian Academy, a 1976 graduate of Mercer University earning a Bachelors of Arts degree in History, was a lifetime member of Mercer University President’s Club and served as Mayor of Lyons from 1986 to 1996. Bob returned to the family business after the death of his father and was CEO of Lark Builders, Inc. for the past forty-five years. He and Don Flanders were co-owners of Jab-O Metal Fabricating Company in Swainsboro. He was a member of the Board of Directors of Montgomery County Bank, the Toombs County Chamber of Commerce, serving as chairman of the Transportation Committee, and the Toombs County Development Authority. He was a board member for Bankers for Progress and previously served on the Boards of First National Bank and Trust of Vidalia and First Union National Bank. He served from 1994 to 1996 as Finance Committee Chairman of Robert Toombs Christian Academy and was also on the board there. He was a member of the Lyons Lions Club and the Georgia Rural Development Council, as well as a member and Board of the Georgia Department of Community Affairs, where he served as secretary. Bob was a past member of Vidalia Rotary Club and a former member of First Baptist Church of Lyons. He was a charter member of The Oaks Baptist Church and was instrumental, along with others, in founding the church. He enjoyed flying and was an avid fan and supporter of the Mercer Bears and Georgia Bulldogs. He is preceded in death by his parents, Robert Lonzie Moore, Sr. and Iris Vilma Wiggins Moore.
His family includes his wife of fifty years, Joanie Moore of Lyons; three sons, Robert L. Moore III and wife Amy of Lyons, J. Wesley Moore and wife Mary Georgia of Vidalia, and Adam Loe Moore and wife Lindsey of Lyons; seven grandchildren, Anna Williamson, Robert “Rob” Moore IV, Savannah Moore, Vick Moore, Anderson Moore, Amelia Moore and Natalie Moore; one sister, Robin Moore of Jacksonville, Florida; and several nieces and nephews, including a special niece, Kelly Evans and husband Harry of Jacksonville, Florida.
The funeral service will be Thursday afternoon, May 15th at 3:00 pm at The Oaks Baptist Church in Lyons with burial to follow at a later date on the family farm.
The family will receive friends on Thursday afternoon, May 15th, at The Oaks Baptist Church in Lyons from 1:00 until just prior to the funeral service.
Pallbearers are Rob Moore, Vick Moore, Anderson Moore, Reese Thompson, Sr., Glenn Durden, Kevin Britton, Don Flanders, and Kelo Bagley.
