Mr. Robert Rowland “Bob” McRae, age 70, of Mt. Vernon, died Monday, February 5, 2024, at Memorial Health Meadows Hospital after an extended illness. He was a native of Montgomery County and grew up in Mt. Vernon. He was a 1971 graduate of Montgomery County High School and had worked at Piggly Wiggly in the advertising department, for Challenger and Oxford in Vidalia, and most recently, he worked at Thriftway in Lyons. Bob loved people, and throughout his life he enjoyed visiting family, friends and businesses in Vidalia and Lyons on his bicycle. He loved watching Andy Griffith and Gunsmoke and he enjoyed coloring, but he especially adored his nieces, great-nieces and great-nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, Claude McRae and Geneva Rowland McRae; two brothers, Joe McRae and Rickey McRae; and two infant siblings, Bonnie McRae and Timothy McRae.
His family includes two sisters, Teresa McRae Brown and husband Roy of Mt. Vernon and Donna McRae Vicks and husband Charles “Rebel” of Glenwood; three nieces, Linda Brown Vasquez of Statesboro, Sabrina Vicks Scott and husband Allen, and Erica Vicks, all of Mt. Vernon; three great-nieces, Shelby Vasquez, Rileigh Scott, Jayley Henry; two great-nephews, Chad Vasquez and Cole Scott; and several special friends at Glenwood Healthcare.
The family will receive friends on Thursday morning, February 8th, at 10:00 at Mt. Vernon Memorial Cemetery until just prior to the graveside funeral at 11:00 with Pastor Karl Hay officiating.
