Mr. Robert “Reb” Adams, age 77, of Mt. Vernon, died Thursday, July 9, 2026, after a brief illness. He was a lifelong resident of Montgomery County, living in Mt. Vernon most of his life. He was a 1966 graduate of Montgomery County High School. He retired as a correctional officer after thirty-four years from Montgomery State Prison. He is a member of Mt. Vernon Church of God, and he loved his pastors and his church family. He was a member of the Sons of Confederate Veterans Montgomery Sharpshooters Camp #2164 where he served on the cannon crew. Robert was an avid gardener and enjoyed fishing and talking to family and friends, but most of all, he loved going to church.
He is preceded in death by a daughter, Sylvia Ann Adams; parents, Harvey Lee Adams, Sr. and Bernice Mercer Adams; sister, Betty Adams Allen; and an infant sister, Molly Elizabeth Adams; sister-in-law, Inez DeLosh Adams.
Mr. Adams is survived by one son, Harvey “Trey” Adams and wife Mallory; two grandsons, Gunner Adams and Gatlin Adams, all of Ailey; one brother, Harvey “Junior” Adams of Mt. Vernon; one sister, Deborah Adams Hall and husband Rickey; brother-in-law, Russell Allen, all of Vidalia; several nieces and nephews, including Michell Lynn and husband Tripp of Rincon, Julie Adams of Ailey, Richie Hallman and wife Karen of Laurens County, bonus family, Tripp Hallman, Wrenley Wampler, Westin Wampler, Jacey Thomas, Josh Gaspard, Zach Gaspard, Max Lynn, Noah Lynn, and Brennan Lynn; and dear friend, Barbara Chambers.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday evening from 6:00 until 8:00.
The funeral service will be held on Sunday afternoon, July 12th, 2026, at 2:00 in the chapel of Ronald V. Hall Funeral Home with his former pastors, Rodney Gibbs and Ronny Saxon officiating. Interment will follow next to his daughter, Sylvia Ann, at Nabb Cemetery in the Bear Creek Community of Montgomery County.
The family will assemble at the residence of a brother, Junior Adams, 322 East O'Conner St., Mt. Vernon.
