Rick Hartley Obituary

Mr. Rick Hartley, age 77, of Lyons, died Saturday, October 26, 2024, at Memorial Health in Savannah, after a brief illness.  He was a native of Wheeler County and a 1965 graduate of Wheeler County High School in Alamo.  He was a U.S. Navy veteran of Vietnam, attached to the Marines as a medic, and was in Vietnam during the Tet Offensive.  Mr. Hartley was a 1973 graduate of The University of Georgia, earning a Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Health and in 1991 earned a Master’s degree in Public Administration from Georgia Southern University.  He retired after twenty-five years as county extension agent for Emanuel and Toombs Counties. He retired again after twelve years as Lyons City Manager, and he served two terms on the Lyons City Council.  He taught Political Science and Government at Brewton-Parker College throughout his careers.  He was a member of The Oaks Baptist Church in Lyons.  He enjoyed playing golf, Georgia football, the beach, bird and squirrel watching, yard work, and going to car shows and the mountains.  Preceding him in death was his wife, Barbara Ann Bell Hartley; and parents, Aurice Aubron Hartley, Sr. and Sallie Mae Gibson Hartley.

His family includes his wife, Holly Tillman Hartley of Lyons; four children, Lance Hartley and wife Brittany of Vidalia, Brandon Aubron Hartley and wife Jessica of the Johnson Corner Community, Courtney Hartley Gay and husband Kyle of Vidalia, and Adam Hartley and wife Lacey of the Kibbee Community; two stepchildren, Dr. Josh Branch and wife Mandy of Fernandina Beach, Florida, and Jenny Branch Mock and husband Sam of Surrency; twenty-one grandchildren, one great-granddaughter; three brothers, Ronnie Hartley and wife Medra of Milledgeville, Randy Hartley and wife Shirley of Edwardsburg, Michigan, and Roger Hartley and wife Joan of McRae-Helena; two sisters, Rhonda Hartley Banks and husband Tim of Warner Robins, and Renee Hartley Brown and husband Perry of Lumber City; and numerous nieces and nephews.

The funeral service will be Wednesday afternoon, October 30th, 2024, at 3:00 in the chapel of Ronald V. Hall Funeral Home with Pastor Christian Burton officiating.  Burial will follow at Edge Memorial Gardens in Glenwood with military honors.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday afternoon from 1:00 until just prior to the service.
