Mr. Richard “Rich” Hull Belles, age 64, of Vidalia, died Wednesday afternoon, October 19, 2022, at Memorial Health University Medical Center in Savannah, Georgia after an extended illness. Rich was born on February 11, 1958, in Cleveland, Ohio, and was a graduate of Bay Village High School Class of 1976. After high school he served six years in the United States Navy, serving in the Submarine Corps on the U.S.S Seahorse. Mr. Belles was employed as a nuclear power engineer with Plant Hatch. Rich was a member of the Augusta Players, sang with the Augusta Opera, served with the Democratic National Party, and, in high school, was the lead singer of the band Tempest. He was a member of the Episcopal Church of Annunciation in Vidalia. Serving at church was considered an honor, which he expressed through singing and playing the handbells in the various churches he attended throughout his life. Mr. Belles is preceded in death by his parents, Frank Edward Belles and Jean Mary Eighmey Belles.
His family includes his wife of forty-three years, and high school sweetheart, Catherine Dennis Belles of Vidalia; two daughters, Rykie Belles and husband Christopher Haugh of Atlanta and Caitlin Belles and Savannah Tuttle of Vidalia; one brother, John Belles of Louisville, Kentucky; one sister, Sarah Belles and husband James Felder of Westlake, Ohio.
A memorial service will be Friday morning, October 21st, at 10:00 at the Episcopal Church of Annunciation in Vidalia.
The family will receive friends at a luncheon that follows the memorial service.
