Coach Ray Meadows, age 68, of Vidalia, died Monday, March 2, 2026, at the Community Hospice House in Vidalia after a brief illness. He was a native of Cochran and was a 1975 graduate of Bleckley County High School. He earned a Bachelor’s degree in Education from the University of Georgia, a Master’s degree in Health and Physical Education from Georgia Southern University, and a Specialist degree from Nova Southeastern University. Ray began a teaching and coaching career in 1980 at McIntosh County where he was instrumental in starting the football program. He enjoyed surf fishing, watching the sunrise at Fernandina Beach, watching college football (Go Dogs), listening to music - especially Jimmy Buffett, coaching his son in baseball, spending time with his dogs, and most importantly being a “pops”.
