Mr. Percy Herndon, age 95, of Cedar Crossing, died Wednesday, September 22, 2021, at his home after a sudden illness. He was a native of Toombs County and lived in Jacksonville, Florida for twenty-five years before returning to Cedar Crossing where he lived most of his life. He was a 1942 graduate of Toombs Central School, was a veteran of World War II serving in the Pacific Theater. He was a truck driver and member of the Teamsters Union in Jacksonville, Florida. He was a member of Oak Grove Baptist Church near Alston and was a Gideon. He enjoyed bird hunting, his bird dogs, especially Pointers, and being outdoors at his farm. He is preceded in death by two wives, Lillian Taylor Herndon and Frances Rodgers Herndon; his daughter, Joan Herndon Crayton; his parents, John L. Herndon and Emma Holiday Herndon; his step-son, Danny McDuffie; his siblings, Lois Herndon Morris, Christine Herndon Lindsey, Nella Herndon Robinson, Millie Herndon Wilkes, Helen Herndon Pruitt, Grace Herndon Goff, Guy Herndon, Randolf Herndon, Cecil Herndon and Curtis Herndon.
His family includes numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.
The funeral service will be Sunday, September 26th, at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel at Ronald V. Hall Funeral Home with Pastor Michael Kennedy officiating.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home at 1:00 until just prior to the service.
