Peggy McGowan Obituary

Mrs. Peggy Parker Henry McGowan, age 90, of Vidalia, died Monday, October 13, 2025, at Oxley Park Health & Rehab in Lyons following an extended illness. She was born on December 23, 1934, in Emanuel County to the late James Turner Parker and Sarah Ann Phillips Parker. She later moved to Treutlen County where she lived many years and lived in Toombs County most of her life. She was a graduate of Treutlen County High School. She worked as the administrative assistant for the Treutlen County School Superintendent, Bobby Driggers, and while in Vidalia, she owned a daycare, Granny Mac for several years. She was a member of Tabernacle Baptist Church in Vidalia and the Willing Workers Sunday school class. She enjoyed fishing, working in flowers, and baking.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by two husbands, Wallace H. Henry, Sr. in 1966 and Wilmer Claude McGowan; son, Daniel Wayne Henry; grandson, Anthony Shane White; sister, Reba Faye Parker Beasley; son-in-law, Steve Lockhart; and daughter-in-law, Myra Braddy Henry.

She is survived by three children, Wallace H. “Butch” Henry, Jr. and wife Jan of Soperton; Terri Henry Lockhart of Vidalia, and Ann Henry Stokes and husband Eric of Beverly Hills, Florida; four grandchildren, Stephanie “Lori” Bell of Soperton, Christopher H. White of Vidalia, Bailey Knoll and husband Robert of Washington State, and Erin Conant and husband Tony of Citrus Springs, Florida; seven great-grandchildren, one great-great-granddaughter; three sisters, Elizabeth Parker Reynolds of Ailey, Patsy Parker Beasley of Lothair, and Judy Parker Carter of Adrian; and numerous nieces and nephews.

The funeral service will be Wednesday, October 15, 2025, at 12:00 noon in the chapel of Ronald V. Hall Funeral Home with Randy McDuffie and Pastor Bobby Thompson officiating. Interment will follow at Harmony Baptist Church Cemetery in Treutlen County.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday morning from 10:00 until just prior to the service.
