Mrs. Peggy Walker Goode, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully on Friday, December 13, 2024, at the Community Hospice House following an extended illness, leaving behind a legacy of love, warmth, and kindness. Born to Robert Roy Walker and Agnes Saville Walker in Mt. Vernon, Ga., on January 25, 1939, Peggy's journey was marked by a profound faith in God and love for her family, friends, and community.
Growing up in Mt. Vernon, Peggy graduated from Montgomery County High School in 1957 and Brewton Parker College in 1960. She married the love of her life, Bobby Joe Goode, on October 23, 1960. Peggy was baptized at Mt. Vernon First Baptist Church as a young girl, establishing a faith in God that would guide her throughout her life.
Peggy was a dedicated homemaker who found immense joy in being a wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Her love extended to her three children and their families: the late Nancy Goode Schoendienst (daughter), Jane Goode Morgan (daughter & son-in law, Harry), and Joel Walker Goode (son & daughter in law, Stephanie). She adored her seven grandchildren: Jennifer (deceased) and Kendall Schoendienst, Kimberly, Mitchell, and Forrest Morgan (& wife, Alison), Jake and Luke Goode, as well as her great-grandchild, Gretta Morgan.
Peggy had a creative talent which she expressed through various hobbies, including porcelain and oil painting, ceramics, sewing, and gardening. Her love for cooking and decorating, especially during the holidays, was evident in the warmth of her home. Music was another source of joy for Peggy.
Bobby Joe and Peggy shared their journey in various cities before retirement, including Richmond, Va., Virginia Beach, Va., St. Louis, Mo., and Jacksonville, Fl. In 2003, after Bobby Joe's retirement, they returned to their roots, settling in Vidalia, Ga. Peggy became an active member of the First Baptist Church of Vidalia, finding community and friendship in the Winsome Sunday School class. She also joined the Mount Vernon Garden Club, where her love for gardening blossomed.
Peggy Goode was a beacon of love and kindness with everyone she encountered. Her legacy lives on in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know her.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday evening from 6:00 until 8:00.
The funeral service will be held Monday morning, December 16, 2024, at 11:00 in the chapel of Ronald V. Hall Funeral Home with Reverend Don Moye officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. Vernon Memorial Cemetery.
