Peggy (Currie) Dykes

Mrs. Peggy Currie Dykes, age 72, of Uvalda, died Monday, July 27, 2026, at the Community Hospice House in Vidalia following an extended illness. She was born in Toombs County, where she grew up, and was a 1971 graduate of Toombs Central School. She earned an associate degree from Brewton-Parker College in Mt. Vernon and a Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing from Valdosta State, becoming a registered nurse. She nursed at Meadows Regional Medical Center in Vidalia most of her career, and lived in Berrien County for ten years where she also nursed. She moved to Montgomery County in 1998, working at Montgomery County Elementary School as a school nurse for a few years. She was a member of the Uvalda Baptist Church. She enjoyed reading romance novels, watching Law & Order, and flower gardening. Her favorite time of the year was Christmas; she loved Christmas music and decorating.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Benjamin Cyrus “Ben” Currie and Johnnie Adams Currie.

She is survived by her husband of fifty years, Glenn Dykes; three children, Taylor Dykes and wife Kasey, all of Uvalda, Abigail Dykes of Beaufort, South Carolina, and Dillon Dykes and wife Theresa of Vidalia; four grandchildren, Tymer Gillis, Tucker Dykes, Isaiah Dykes, and Ben Dykes; three sisters, Brenda Currie, Judy Whitaker and husband Kenny, all of Vidalia, and Kathy Roberts and husband Ricky of Gray’s Landing; and several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday evening from 6:00 until 8:00.

The funeral service will be held on Thursday morning, July 30th, 2026, at 11:00 at Uvalda Baptist Church with Pastor Adrian Bell officiating. Interment will follow at Smyrna Church Cemetery.
